Installing a printer on macOS and Windows
By Tom Nonmacher
For many of us, installing a new printer on our computer can seem like a daunting task. However, with a little patience and guidance, the process can be straightforward and hassle-free. This post will explain how you can install a printer on both macOS and Windows operating systems.
Let's start with macOS. First, ensure your printer is connected to your Mac either via USB or through your local network. You can add the printer by going to the Apple menu, then 'System Preferences', and finally 'Printers & Scanners'. Click the '+' button to add a new printer. Your Mac will then search for available printers. In the list that appears, click on the name of your printer and then click the 'Add' button. If your printer supports it, you may also select the 'Use AirPrint' checkbox for wireless printing.
In some cases, your Mac may not automatically find the printer. In such a situation, click on the 'IP' tab in the 'Add' window and enter the IP address of the printer. You may need to consult your printer's manual or the manufacturer's website to find this information. Once you've entered the IP address, select the appropriate driver from the 'Use' menu, and finally, click 'Add'.
Now let's turn to Windows. Start by connecting your printer to your PC with a USB cable or to your local network. To add your printer, go to the 'Start' menu, click on 'Settings', then 'Devices', and finally 'Printers & Scanners'. Click on 'Add a printer or scanner'. Your PC will then search for available printers. Click on the name of your printer when it appears and then click on 'Add device'.
If your PC cannot locate the printer, click on 'The printer that I want isn't listed' and then select the appropriate option based on your situation. You may need to enter your printer's IP address, which can be found in your printer's manual or the manufacturer's website. After entering the necessary details, click 'Next' and follow the instructions provided by the wizard to complete the installation.
To sum up, installing a printer on both macOS and Windows can be a hassle-free task with the right instructions. Always remember to refer to the printer's manual or the manufacturer's website if you encounter any issues during the installation process.
